Sonia Roy is an ‘A Grade’ vocalist at All India Radio. She has received extensive taleem from Smt. Shanti Sharma, who was a renowned name in the sphere of Indian classical musicians and the worthy torch bearer of the illustrious Indore Gharana – an Institution by itself in the musical firmament of India.

Sonia’s years of unrelenting practice coupled with a rare cerebrally in her musical approach, her innate crave for perfection and, above all, her mellifluous and tuneful voice have all combined together to give her music a rare dimension that instantly captures the hearts of her listeners. Since her debut performance at Sriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Sonia has, over the years, been performing in a number of prestigious and reputed music conferences throughout India and abroad.

Sonia has also been featured as an eminent teacher at India’s leading music education institute Sriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi, where she has been teaching Khayal from 2004 till date.



Sonia’s presentation of Khayal and Thumri chiefly characterises the Indore Gharana known for its all-pervasive tunefulness, a serene reposeful movement of feeling and a caressive approach. Also found in her music the glimpses of the finer nuances of a number of other principal gharanas which goes to enrich her music manifolds and which also speaks of a very receptive mindset in her in imbibing anything of quality. This is precisely what has prompted her to receive valuable guidance from the much revered Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Dr. Anjali Chakrabarty and Pt. Asit Kumar Banerjee on a regular basis.



Sonia Roy has performed at various places in West Bengal, Varanasi, Mathura and various cities in Europe in association with Shri Shambhu Maharaj Dance Academy.

In New Delhi, she has performed at Pt. Gopal Nayak Sangeet Samaroh 2010 (held at PSK Auditorium, Laxmi Nagar), in Kamani Auditorium (on occasion of Basant Panchami Celebrations of Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra), at Epicentre, Gurgaon (in 2011) and twice at India Habitat Center (in 2007 and 2011).
